  • Ryno's South African Mini History Published

Ryno Verster, historian for the Mini Owners Club of Southern Africa, has finished his four years’ worth of research and writing, and the result is the newly, self-published, Thanks for the Mini Memories – A South African Mini Story. The book is in limited production and is available from the author only.
I haven’t been able to figure out how to describe the book. As a hardback book at 8 ½” x 12” and full of photographs, it’s almost a “coffee table” book.
It’s also a scholarly work as becomes apparent when reading the details that Ryno’s efforts have uncovered about the unique South African Minis and the history of their production.
It’s a reference book with about 100 of the 255 pages devoted to appendices on everything from homologation papers to tables of sales figures to technical specifications of the South African Mini models.
It’s a look into BMC car production in South Africa with one chapter devoted to assembly of cars at Blackheath between 1955 and 1971; including, pictures of the first Austin Healy 100/6 and Austin Healey Sprite to roll off the assembly line.
And it is certainly a published labor of love.
Books are sold by the author only and are shipped from South Africa. The price, including shipping (unfortunately high from South Africa), is US$59. Order the book directly from Ryno (email would be the easiest). To make money transfer easier and avoid bank draft charges (Paypal isn’t available to him) he has arranged for funds to be sent to me by check or money order. He will let me know who has ordered and I’ll let him know as soon as funds are received.
I have a two page Word document that contains an abridged summary of the book’s contents, including, chapter and appendices titles. Purchase information is also included. If you are interested, let me know and I’ll send you a copy.
The more I know about Minis, the more I know I don't know about Minis.
